Simon wins Douglas Robb and Tim and Bruce win Andy Stuart

Posted on September 5

Sunday was finals day, which was played in really difficult conditions- persistent rain with the usual strong breeze! In the club’s individual matchplay final Simon Wordley took on Gareth Evans. With both off a handicap of 6, quality was assured. That proved to be the case, Simon stormed into a 5 hole advantage in the first 8 holes being level par, before Gareth won the next 2 holes. However Simon won the 11th and 14th to secure victory by 5&4 to win the Douglas Robb trophy.

In the Andy Stuart foursomes final , the experienced Tim Griffin and Bruce Edwards took on father and son Tristan and Cameron Gurd, the former receiving 3 shots. In a closely contested front 9, Tim and Bruce took a one shot lead. A birdie on the 11th proved to be the key for them and they maintained their nerve to win 4&3.

Both matches were played in great spirit and quality golf considering the tough conditions.
